Major Grants for 2006-2007
The Society is pleased to announce that, as a result of the fourteenth competition for the research grants set up with funds received towards its centenary appeal, the following awards have been made:
- £2,000 to Renzo Baldasso, including $1,500 from the Bibliographical Society of America, as the Fredson Bowers award, for a study of Erhard Ratdolt and the visual dimension of early printed books;
- £800 to Marta C. Casal for research into painters, books and learning in sixteenth- and seventeenth-century Spain;
- £1,055 to Andrew Defty for a study of the role of British publishers in the Cold War; the award associated with the name of Barry Bloomfield;
- £1,700 to Caroline Duroselle-Melish for a study of Ulisse Aldovandi and book acquisition in early modern Europe;
- £1,748 to Julie Hotchin for research into the collection and production of devotional books by nuns in later medieval Germany;
- £1,540, as the Falconer Madan Prize (in association with the Oxford Bibliographical Society), to Christopher S. Ivic for research into Jacobean Union literature;
- £1,600 to Hans-Jörg Künast for a bibliography of Augsburg imprints, 1468-1600; the award associated with the Antiquarian Booksellers Association;
- £740 to Michael Londry for a study of English literary manuscripts by or concerning women of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries;
- £955 to Margaret Willes, including £500 from the National Trust, as the Royal Oak Award, for work on the acquisition and use of books in the English-speaking world since 1500.
